This essay will explain
how the waoroni lived and how they lived in harmony with the Amazon.
The
waoroni lived in a house made from trees. They would make a wooden frame then
cover it in leaves. They would live in the same house for a few months then move
to another place. They would make two structures and move between them every
few months. There are as many as thirty members of one tribe, they all work
together and all there effort is for the good of the tribe.
The Waorani rely a lot on
the forest and the plants to survive. They use all the plants crush into a liquid and drink. It becomes alcoholic and the adults drink over
a gallon a day. They use the bark from the curare vine which hangs from the
canopy. It is the bark which contains the poison which is carved off and
carried to the hut by using vine leaf. The poison is very carefully added to
the end of the darts which is used to kill their food. The reason why the
waorani change location every few months is because the land that the crops
grow on is not fertile enough to sustain the tribe for more than one season.
The Waroni people depend
on the forest for food so they must enhance their hunting skills to survive.
They use wooden and metal axes which they trade or make themselves. They also
use spears but they only use there spears to attack other tribes. The Waroni
men hunt for all the tribe and they start from as young as eight. Although they
don’t make there own blow pipes at eight. They watch there elders cut a branch
from a tree and sand down the insides of the pipe. This process may take four
weeks.
