The Waorani Tribe of the Amazon Rainforest

In this essay we will be explaining the way of life of the Waorani Tribe of the Amazon Rainforest .The Waorani tribe trace back to the Stone Age .There are roughly about 13 people in each tribe. The life of the Waorani is totally different from our modern day lives. Until a few a years ago they used to fight other tribes. They have there own language and it is not written.

When the Waorani hunt, they use different methods; most of the materials used for weapons have come from things they find in the forest. They make blowpipes from wood, hollow it out and then make spears from other plants for them. The poison they use comes from a special form of bark which comes from a rare tree in the Amazon forest. They use piranha teeth are used to weaken the spear which it shot at the animal from the blowpipe and the poison is then entered into the animal, and the dart then snaps when the animals tries to break free and the poison remains in the animal and is left to die a slow death.

Boys start hunting at a young age, they begin by using others pipes and with help from there fathers and elder brothers. It is most defiantly the men’s job to hunt, while the women stay home and cook/make fishing nets.

The Waorani Tribe’s family life is that they have very loaded and full houses, there can be up to 13 people per house. Stories are told at dinner and are sung. The songs that they sing have special meanings and stories about there ancestors, which have been pasted down through the generations. Both sexes help each other with the chores and get through the day together.

Weapons used are things that are made by the people them selves. Things such as blowpipes, axes and spears are commonly used. They are made by natural resources in the forest e.g. trees, plants and animals. The tribe are Nomadic.

There are many types of animals in the rainforest; they are woolly monkey which are used for food, there are also birds, jaguars which is the most feared of all in the animals in the waorani tribe. Peccaries (wild pigs) and Curacao (wild chickens) are used for food, too. Manioc is a type of potato that compliments most meals.

Plants have many different uses, e.g. food for humans as well as animals. They are used to help with the blowpipes poison to kill the waorani tribe’s food. Plants are an important part of the waorani life. They help with there every day life in a major way.

After researching the Waorani, we have come to the conclusion that we believe, that for the civilisation they live in that they are extremely advanced and clever. With the way they make weapons and live it is almost unbelievable. I hope that we have made a good summary of the waorani in this essay.
