Chico Mendes was a virtual slave bound to do the bidding of his master. Chico was at work for nine years old. He never went to school due to it was forbidden instead Chico learnt how to extract latex from a rubber tree before learning the ABC. But it was known that children were better to working than going to school so that is what Chico did.

Chico got older and new how to survive on his own and has a bit of an education.
